Prospecting of Agate Deposit in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province

Agate is abundant in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province. Dishuiya agate deposit in Xuanhua county and Huiquanzi agate deposit in Yangyuan county are well known. Due to different conditions of genesis, agate resources in Zhangjiakou could be divided into two types:The magmatic type distributed in the andesite of Tiaoji Mountain formation in Jurassic strata; The sedimentary type distributed in Huiquanzi formation in Upper Cretaceous strata. Though rich in agate resources, there is no major breakthrough of prospecting due to lack of work; Therefore, these resources haven't been utilized in an effective manner. By comparing typical agate deposits with the other agate distribution areas, it is found that, in Hongnitan area of Guyuan county as well as Zhangsigou area and Zhanghao village of Chicheng county, the surrounding rocks and orebodies are the same as those in Dishuiya mine, which are ideal target areas for prospecting agate of magmatic type. In Wangjiayao and Dongjingji of Yangyuan county, the surrounding rocks and orebodies are the same as those in Huiquanzi mine, which are ideal target areas for prospecting agate of sedimentary type. Long-term prospecting of agate in Zhangjiakou area is elaborated in this paper.
